For a few years now, mainly due to the highly publicized drama between Heard and her ex-husband Johnny Depp, there has been a popular fan campaign calling for a recasting of Mera in the sequel. Additionally, there is a viral petition calling for Heard’s removal from the picture; you can find it on Change.org. Over 4.6 million people have signed the petition, which has garnered enough signatures to suggest that Warner Bros. executives have at least entertained the idea of reshoots.

Though Heard’s dismissal has not been confirmed as of yet, new rumors suggesting that the recasting may have actually occurred have surfaced heading into the weekend. These rumors seem to be a result of many fans noticing that when searching for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s cast on Google, Clarke’s name appears alongside Jason Momoa and the other confirmed stars of the film.
