I completely missed it,” he admitted. “Yeah, he was in one of the early iterations of the Riverdale pilot — not the original, but I’d guess perhaps in the third draft — but he later returned to not being deaf. But we had already discussed it back then.
The showrunner responded, “Yeah, I’ll be totally honest with you, I didn’t even consciously set out to do that,” when asked if he could now pursue some of the concepts he had before. “You know, I guess in a weird way,” he added. Naturally, we’re experimenting with genre and other comic book clichés, which is why comics played such a significant role in “Rivervale.”
