Warning: Season 1 of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Loki spoilers are present in this page.

After a lengthy absence, Loki season 2 returned to our screens this week, with the first episode seeing Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief engaging in all manner of, well, mischief.

Some familiar faces were reintroduced with the revival of the series, including Owen Wilson’s Mobius and Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie (who appeared in a post-credits scene). Additionally, it introduced several fresh faces to the cast, who are already proving to be as fascinating. Let’s start with OB (Ke Huy Quan).

Strong reviews and a somewhat altered release schedule—only one episode rather than the customary double bill—greeted the MCU’s newest project as it made its debut. Fortunately, the wait for episode 2 won’t be too long.

We can reflect on the conclusion of episode 1 in the interim. There was certainly a lot to take in because the show picks up immediately after the epic season 1 finale in which Sylvie killed He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) and set the multiverse as we know it free.

The post-credit scene from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania gave fans a sneak peek at what Loki would be up to, and the film also hinted at how much Kang the Conqueror would “change everything” for the colossal superhero franchise.

Kevin Wright, the executive producer of the show, has already made a suggestion about how this episode might end, indicating that it will be a “open-ended” finale even though a season 3 has not yet been officially announced.

The second season of Loki debuted on Disney Plus on October 6, 2023, at 2:00 a.m. BST.

The second season of the program will consist of six episodes and end on November 9th, 2023.

Executive producer Nate Moore told IndieWire in April 2021 that Loki is a project with “multiple” seasons in mind, implying that it might go beyond the second installment.

“I think there’s a lot of storytelling in Loki that’s really irreverent and clever and cool, but also lends itself to multiple seasons in a way where it’s not a one-off,” he stated. “I believe that program features some of Tom Hiddleston’s best work.

“It’s actually pretty wonderful. I consider all the wonderful things he has accomplished, but this program is going to demonstrate his versatility on a truly wide scale. I predict a lot of people will be surprised by that show.

Despite the catastrophic events that saw the Sacred Timeline destroyed and the Multiverse created anew, every significant character from the show’s first season has returned for the second.

Ravonna makes an appearance in the trailer wearing Victorian attire, and Sylvie is back and now working at McDonald’s.

Jonathan Majors, who previously played a different version of Kang the Conqueror in Quantumania, will return to the character in Ant-Man and the Wasp as Victor Timely, a scientist in a Victorian setting.

Kate Dickie from Game of Thrones, Liz Carr from Silent Witness, and Everything Everywhere All At Once actor Ke Huy Quan have all joined the cast as recent recruits. Ouroboros is a new TVA employee.

It was made apparent in the Quantumania end-credits scene that Kang would be in Loki season 2.

Before the end-credits scene focused on one specific version of the villain, the mid-credits scene showed the summoning of a large army of Kang variations.

We see yet another form of Kang giving a lecture on stage in this scene, which looks to be set at some point towards the start of the 20th century. He instructs his audience that “Time is everything. It affects how we live, but maybe we can change it.

Then the camera cuts to the audience, where Loki and Mobius can be seen among the spectators.

Loki mumbles, “It’s him,” and he seems genuinely worried. Mobius turns to Loki and says, “You made him sound like some terrifying figure!” while becoming less concerned.

Before the display goes dark and a message stating that “Kang will return” appears, Loki just answers, “He is.”

Victor Timely, a variation of Kang that we first encounter in this scene, appears to be the main enemy for the second season of the Disney Plus series, and Loki doesn’t seem overly thrilled about the prospect of facing him. Consider us appropriately frightened…

The last time Majors appeared in Loki was in episode 6, when the show finally gave fans what they had been waiting for: a type of official debut for Jonathan Majors as comic book villain Kang the Conqueror.

The bizarre character we encounter in the season finale is not the merciless, psychotic antagonist from the comic books, but a slightly more sensible variation going by the name of He Who Remains.

This Kang has a good side as he works to stop the start of a catastrophic multiversal conflict, even though his totalitarian control over reality as the TVA’s puppet master can undoubtedly be deemed wicked.

As the Sacred Timeline splits into multiple different realities, one of which is certain to include an even more dangerous version of himself, he says “see you soon” as Sylvie kills him in the final minutes.

Even without Kang, Tom Hiddleston’s epic sci-fi drama will still have enough to explore as it deals with the repercussions of a modified history in which neither Agent Mobius nor Hunter B-15 can recall who Loki is.

Loki may have landed up in a parallel world where his exploits with the TVA never took place, according to the shocking finale scene, but it’s unclear whether Sylvie intended for him to go there or if it’s a hint that the cosmos is already out of control.

The TVA headquarters now houses a massive statue of Kang, which originally housed a shrine to the fictitious Time-Keepers. This hints that possibly an arrogant time-traveler is responsible for the meddling.

Judge Ravonna Renslayer, who fled the TVA offices through a TemPad portal in search of free will, has also been left in the dark.

It’s probable that the two villains may first meet in Loki’s second season as she becomes Kang the Conqueror’s right-hand woman and a love interest in the comics.

When asked about the show’s renewal in an interview with Collider, Season 1 showrunner Kate Herron admitted that she too is curious about where the plot would go next.

“I would say the decision for that came from Marvel and Disney, and I thought it was just the highest compliment to everyone’s work on the show,” she stated. “They were merely enthused by the narratives and the incredible work that the authors and actors were putting forth.

And because there are so many unsolved questions, I thought that was really cool. Where did Renslayer go, like? What memories does B-15 have? She is who? Further still, where the hell is Loki?

“Yeah, I think there’s definitely more road to travel,” Herron continued. The six hours we spent on Loki only scraped the surface of who he is in the comics, as everyone is aware, so I believe there is still a lot to learn about him.
